OVERVIEW OF TOPIC: Harry S. Truman gave a speech which was later known as the Truman Doctrine. What was outlined in it was "free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures". In other words he was describing the Spread of communism throughout Europe. The Marshall plan or European Recovery Program (ERP) was designed by George C. Marshall. It explained that the United States would give money to European countries for the collaboration of them not being communist. CONTROVERSIAL QUESTION(S) REGARDING TOPIC: Why did the cold war start? Why did European nations get in such dire need for getting money from the US? Did the Marshall Plan and Truman Doctrine actually stop Communism? HYPOTHESIS: Did the Truman Doctrine and the action of the Marshall Plan Help with the stop of Communism?
